Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa — the Special Organization — was established by the OttomanCommittee of Union and Progress in 1914 as an irregular intelligence and special operations unit. It operated in the final years of the empire, during the most turbulent period in Ottomanhistory, and its symbol has since become one of the most recognized emblems of late Ottomanand early Republican Turkish military heritage.
