The zihgir is a thumb ring worn to protect the thumb when drawing a bowstring. It was standard equipment for mounted archers across the Turkic, Mongol, and Ottoman worlds from the medieval period onward, and became a prestige object in Ottoman court culture โ examples survive in palace collections in Istanbul, some set with precious stones and inscribed with calligraphy.
This ring follows that tradition. The face is set with a piece of natural turquoise and carries an engraved inscription โ a phrase associated with the warrior ethos of the Ottoman frontier. The band is wide and flat on the inner surface, designed to sit across the thumb pad. It is a substantial piece with visible weight and presence on the hand. The ring is adjustable and fits most thumb sizes; it can also be worn on other fingers.
