Vav Letter Red Amber Couples Name Necklace 925 Sterling Silver Red Zircon Personalized

There is a tradition in Anatolian jewelry of making pieces that carry two names — not side by side as a list, but woven together, as if the names belong to the same breath. The Ottomancalligraphers called this form mürekkep — compound, composite, the joining of two things into one that is more than either alone. This necklace works in that tradition.

The central pendant is red amber — a warmer, deeper tone than the honey-colored amber more commonly seen in jewelry. Red amber has been found in Anatolian archaeological sites dating back thousands of years; it was traded along the same routes as lapis lazuli and carnelian, valued for its color and its warmth against the skin. The surface of the stone is hand-carved with two names — the names of the couple, placed together in the center of the piece. The sides of the amber are set with red zircon stones, and the pendant is framed on both the front edge and the reverse with the letter Vav — the letter of connection, of the conjunction that holds two things together.
