Surah Al-Inshirah — also known as Surah Ash-Sharh, “The Opening of the Chest” — is one of the shortest and most consoling chapters of the Quran. Revealed during a period of difficulty in the early years of the Prophet’s mission, it addresses the human experience of burden and relief directly: the chest opened, the weight lifted, the name raised. The verse “with hardship comes ease” appears twice in succession — a deliberate repetition in Arabic rhetoric that functions as emphasis and as promise. Islamic scholars have noted that the repetition of yusra (ease) while ‘usri (hardship) remains singular suggests that ease is always greater than the difficulty it follows.
