The four surahs engraved on this ring were not chosen arbitrarily. They form a complete system of protection — a set of prayers that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is reported to have recited every night before sleep, and that Islamic tradition has long understood as a comprehensive shield against harm.

Surah Al-Falaq asks for protection from the evils that exist in the created world — the darkness of night, the malice of those who envy, the harm that comes from outside. Surah An-Nas asks for protection from the evil that whispers from within — the doubt, the temptation, the voice that undermines from the inside. Together, the Mu’awwidhatayn — the two surahs of seeking refuge — cover both directions: the external and the internal, the world and the self.

Surah Al-Ikhlas is the declaration of pure monotheism — Qul huwa Allahu ahad, say: He is God, the One. The scholars of Islam have said that it is equal in weight to a third of the Quran, because it contains the essence of what the Quran teaches about the nature of God. Surah Al-Kafirun is the declaration of clarity — lakum dinukum wa liya din, to you your religion, to me mine — a statement of conviction that does not argue, does not waver, does not compromise.

These four surahs, engraved by hand into solid 925 sterling silver, surround a central space where your name — or the name of the person you are giving this ring to — is engraved. The band is bordered with twisted rope patterns, a form that appears throughout Ottomanand Islamic metalwork as a symbol of strength and continuity.
